13 DAYS OF NIRVANA

At a time when synthesizers, wardrobes sporting shoulder pads and hairspray were the staples of the music scene, in trudged Nirvana.  Officially marked as forming in 1987, Nirvana paved the way for generations of bands and musicians.  They also, unknowingly, helped create a completely new genre of music – grunge. Take an unintentionally enigmatic wordsmith like Kurt Cobain, combined with two brilliant musicians (cue Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic) and there you have it - a recipe for a musical overthrow of convention.  Nirvana wasn't about purposefully proving anything whether it was what they wore, how they played, or the subjects they wrote about.  They were simply about the music, a way of operating that incited both creativity and hysteria within the industry.

We consider Nevermind an Epic Album, and ironically the 20th anniversary release of this album is coming up on September 27th, courtesy of Universal Music.  The two editions of this special piece will feature B-sides, studio session tracks, videos and much more.  We’ve decided to honor this momentous rock-casion by posting each track from the original Nevermind every day leading up to the 20th Anniversary release.

So perfect your finest moshing skills, don your best/worst flannel shirt and rock out to 13 Days of Nirvana with us - kicking off with the anthem of a generation, "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
